Skin aging: What happens to your skin (and what can you do about it?)
What we mean by skin aging
Skin aging often sounds more serious than it needs to be. It's not a problem you have to "solve," but a natural process your skin goes through.
However, at some point, you notice your skin changing. Perhaps you see fine lines, your skin feels a bit drier, or it looks less fresh than before.
This has to do with how your skin renews itself. That process slowly becomes a little slower. Your skin produces less collagen and retains moisture less effectively. As a result, your skin feels less firm and supple than you were used to.
Aging is natural. And it doesn't have to be a negative thing.
Not all skin ages in the same way.
Skin aging looks different for everyone. For some, you primarily see fine lines, while for others, it's pigment spots or duller skin. What is often confused is the difference between lines due to skin aging and lines due to dehydration.
Skin that lacks moisture can quickly look somewhat crinkled. Lines due to dehydration are often superficial and can change throughout the day. As soon as your skin is well-hydrated again, they usually become less visible or even disappear completely.
Lines associated with skin aging behave differently. They are slightly deeper in the skin and remain visible even when your skin is well-cared for and hydrated. Pigment spots can also appear or become more visible, often due to sun exposure over the years. This makes your skin look less even, even if it otherwise feels calm.
Are you unsure if it's dryness or skin aging? Always start with hydration. Drink enough water, use a nice moisturizer, and treat your skin to an extra hydrating sheet mask.
What your skin needs.
Well-hydrated skin quickly looks younger and fresher. That alone often makes more of a difference than you think.
Additionally, active ingredients can support your skin in processes it does a little less quickly itself. Not to stop the process, but to help with things like skin renewal or evening out your complexion.
Retinol is a well-known example. It helps your skin renew faster and can, in the long term, lead to smoother, more even skin. Besides retinol, there are other ingredients that can support your skin, such as vitamin C for a more even complexion or mild exfoliants that make your skin glow again. Skin aging doesn't happen overnight, and neither does change. What does work is building a routine you can stick with. Not perfect, but consistent. A few steps you use daily ultimately do more than an elaborate routine you can't maintain!
Bare&Seoul. This is enough.
